- 1. to, for 2. for 3. to
- There are two prepositional phrases (and one error) in that sentence. "to his friends house" is a prepositional phrase, as is "for dinner." You didn't ask about this, but the error is in the possessive "friends." Whether friend is singular or plural, it needs an apostrophe. If it's the house of one friend, it should be "to his friend's house for dinner." If he has more than one friend at that house, it should be "to his friends' house for dinner." And by the way, it's English, not Englsih.
- complete phrases to his friend's house, and for dinner
- to his friend's house; for dinner are both prepositional phrases. The easiest way is to find the preposition, as the prepositional phrase always follows the preposition. The way I do it is "The squirrel went ____ the tree" fill in the blank with the word you are trying to figure out and if it sounds right it is the preposition. Ex. "The squirrel went UP the tree" The prepositional phrase is "up the tree" the words just following the preposition.
