non-corny/lame wedding card phrases??
My boyfriend and I are attending the wedding of one of his friends (they're not too close; I've never met him, but my boyfriend has only good things to say about him). We found a gorgeous blank card; what should we write in it? I've found a tonne of quotes online...they're all too generic, too religious (we're not really sure of their beliefs, and we're both atheists) or too "sentimental". Do you know of any great song lyrics, quotes from a "counter-culture" figure, etc. that would work well in a wedding card? Please, please help! I'm an English major so this should be easy for me...it *would* be easier if I actually knew the couple. My boyfriend has asked me to do the card "because you're a better writer." Looking for intelligent help, please! No links to massive online databases please; I've already tried that! Thanks!

- What about, "Congratulations, we're so happy for you?"
- Just be nice and upbeat. I don't think writting a book is appropriate. I'd keep it very short.
- lyrics are good. what about: 'you know i'd walk a thousand miles.... if i could just see you tonite.' what about this: te quiero // Ich liebe Sie // je vous aime so many ways to say it... I'amo // Ik houd van u // amo-o but only one meaning. jeg elsker De // i ovelay ouyay // i love you
- Although this one is from the Bible, it doesn't "scream" religion: Love knows no limit to its endurance no end to its trust, Love still stands when all else has fallen. - 1 Corinthians 13:7-8 - Or how about something like this? As your marriage brings new meaning to love, so your love brings new meaning to life Hope this helps...and good luck to the newlyweds!
- Hey, English major - how about something by Goethe? "This is the true measure of Love, when we believe that we alone can Love, that no one could ever have Loved so before us, and that no one will ever Love in the same way after us." or Leo Tolstoy - "Love is life. All, everything that I understand, I understand only because I love." -- the writings of Kahlil Gibran on marriage and love are also awesome - just don't have that book at hand.
